Hillary Clinton still blames FBI Director James Comey– in part– for her loss. Please ignore the fact that she was a terrible candidate who ran an unorganized, garbage campaign. Also ignore the fact that she brought those email troubles upon herself. Comey didn’t force her to mishandle classified information. He didn’t force her husband to meet with AG Lynch on the tarmac. He didn’t force her to delete 30,000+ emails. That’s all on her.
Nevertheless, Sen. Dianne Feinstein asked Comey why he decided to announce that the FBI reopened the investigation into Hillary’s unsecured email server days before the election, and his response was surprisingly reasonable.
Basically, it was a crappy situation either way. The FBI had reason to believe that Hillary’s deleted emails were on Anthony Weiner’s laptop. If Comey chose not to inform Congress and they did find new information, he’d be accused of concealment. But if he did inform Congress, he’d likely be accused of trying to influence the election in favor of Trump, which he continues to claim was NOT his intention.
He knew it would look bad either way, so he decided to go with the least terrible choice.
