Sen. John McCain Admits He Delivered The Unverified Dossier To The FBI

If you haven’t tuned into the news in the last 24 hours, I can’t imagine how confused you are right now. Good news! That’s what we’re here for!

Long story short, CNN published a “damning” report on Trump and the Russians Tuesday night. The report claims that Russian operatives have compromising secret information about Trump.  BuzzFeed responded to the report by publishing an unverified dossier, which was supposedly put together by a former British intelligence official. Keep in mind, Russia denies having any sort of explosive dirt on Trump. A spokesman for Russian leader Vladimir Putin actually called the unverified dossier “pulp fiction.” Meanwhile, media outlets like the New York Times admitted they couldn’t publish the dossier, because the allegations are “totally unsubstantiated.” You know it’s bad if NYT says that. Meanwhile, there are rumors swirling that this is a hoax created by users on 4chan. We have no idea if that’s true either.

So much fake news.

President-elect Trump just held a press conference and he– as well as members of his administration– slammed BuzzFeed for publishing the dossier.

Incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer:

VP-elect Mike Pence:

And President-elect Trump himself:

Congrats! You’re basically caught up now, and now we can add on.

Sen. John McCain admitted Wednesday that he was the one who passed on the Russian blackmail info to the FBI.

“Late last year, I received sensitive information that has since been made public,” McCain said in a statement. “Upon examination of the contents, and unable to make a judgment about their accuracy, I delivered the information to the Director of the FBI. That has been the extent of my contact with the FBI or any other government agency regarding this issue.”

However, some say it doesn’t end there. They believe McCain is more involved than he claims.

Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein, who contributed to the CNN story, said a former British ambassador to Moscow handed McCain the dossier.

“It came from a former British MI6 agent who was hired from a political opposition research firm in Washington who was doing work about Donald Trump for both republican and democratic candidates opposed to Trump,” Bernstein said.

“They were looking at Trump’s business ties, they saw some questionable things about Russians, about his businesses in Russia, they in turn hired this MI6 former investigator, he then came up with additional information from his Russian sources, he was very concerned by the implications of it, he then took it to an FBI colleague that he had known in his undercover work for years, he took it to this FBI man in Rome who turned it over to the bureau in Washington in August,” he continued.

“And then, a former British ambassador to Russia independently was made aware of these findings and he took the information to John McCain – Senator John McCain of Arizona – in the period just after the election, and showed it to McCain – additional findings,” he added. “McCain was sufficiently disturbed by what he read to take it to FBI director James Comey himself personally, they had a five minute meeting the two men, very little was said, McCain turned it over to him and is now awaiting what the FBI’s response is to that information.”

More information to come, I’m sure. Boy, what a day.
