Seriously, Chrissy Teigen?

Seriously, Chrissy Teigen?

Every eight weeks, when I go get my hair cut, I use that opportunity to catch up on all the trashy magazines my hairdresser keeps in her salon.  So this weekend, I thumbed through a Glamour magazine, and read a BIG CONFESSION that Chrissy Teigen wrote about her battle with postpartum depression.

I’ll be honest, there are times when I find Chrissy Teigen to be enormously endearing, particularly on Twitter, where she’s often kinda hilarious and self-deprecating.  And as I read her deeply personal, open letter to the world about her postpartum depression, I found myself thinking, “I hope other women out there who suffer from this find some comfort in Chrissy Teigen’s words, and I’m glad she’s being open about it.”  She even recognized the privileged life she leads, and said:

I also just didn’t think it could happen to me. I have a great life. I have all the help I could need: John, my mother (who lives with us), a nanny. But postpartum does not discriminate. I couldn’t control it. And that’s part of the reason it took me so long to speak up: I felt selfish, icky, and weird saying aloud that I’m struggling. Sometimes I still do.

So, that’s honest.  She’s owning her reality, recognizing that she’s in a much better position to deal with it than most people are, and endearing herself to the reader.  Nice.

Aaaaaand, then she ruins it (emphasis mine).

I know I might sound like a whiny, entitled girl. Plenty of people around the world in my situation have no help, no family, no access to medical care. I can’t imagine not being able to go to the doctors that I need. It’s hurtful to me to know that we have a president who wants to rip health care away from women. I look around every day and I don’t know how people do it. I’ve never had more respect for mothers, especially mothers with postpartum depression.

WHAT IN THE HOLY HELL?!??!

I would like to challenge Chrissy Teigen to show ONE SPECK OF EVIDENCE that we have a president who wants to “rip healthcare away from women.”  What an absolutely preposterous, irresponsible thing to write.

And that’s the thing.  Gullible, naive, stupid women will read her piece and nod and believe it all.  They’ll internalize a total lie, because the chick married to John Legend said it, and so it must be true.

Chrissy Teigen had a great opportunity here to write a completely non-partisan open letter that would’ve been helpful to scores of women on both sides of the aisle.  And yet once again, a celebrity idiot has decided to alienate instead of unite.

What a freaking waste.
