Now We’ve Got Dorky Shia LaBeouf Doing ‘Performance Art’ In An Elevator. Good Grief…

To me, Shia LaBeouf will forever be that dweeby Louis Stevens from the Disney Channel back in the day. If you don’t remember (or don’t know) what I’m talking about, take a gander at a couple of minutes of this –

(What IS it with former Disney Channel stars going crazy? Seriously…)

So, if you haven’t heard (it’s not too late! Run for it!), Shia LaBeouf is riding in an elevator for 24 hours and streaming it online for ALL THE WORLD to see. And he’s calling it “Performance Art.” Because his career hasn’t hit rock bottom enough –

Shia LaBeouf has got stuck into another head scratching project – this time involving a lift.

The actor, who is no stranger to live performances, is due to take part in a highly-anticipated talk at Oxford Union at 8pm tonight.

But on the run up to it he’s hardly been prepping or thinking of some clever things to say.

Instead Shia has been occupying a lift since 9am while inviting students to come along and get involved.

[…]

The project is being live streamed on YouTube and through the day has had thousands of people checking out the action.

A description accompanying the video reads: “Visitors will be able to join LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner inside the elevator during this time, and are invited to address the artists, the debating chamber, and the internet, so that their collective voices may form an extended, expansive and egalitarian Oxford Union address.

“The performance and access to the Union debating chamber will be free and open to the public for the full 24 hours.”

What’s even more nuts about this is that other self-proclaimed performance artists got in on the act – one student even asking LaBeouf to punch him in the face as part of his performance art (I guess he’s networking with other bizarre performance artists or something? I have no idea…)

That’s… that’s not art, guys.

What’s sad (and yet hilarious) about all this is that someone has already done Shia LaBeouf performance art. And it’s WAAAAAAY more entertaining that watching this guy ride in an elevator all day. Takes less time, too –
